It’s official today is my last post on WordPress. FACE IT is 6 months old and as you know I have been testing out Blogger as a potential new site host for a few weeks. While I really love all of you and appreciate the value of WordPress, Blogger seems like a much better fit for my goals and relationships.

I hope you will visit me at my new location and follow FACE IT Catalog on Blogger. You all have been so welcoming and we have come so far in the first 6 months! THANK YOU THANK YOU for reading and I hope to see you over at the NEWFACE IT Catalog soon!

Formal Repurposed

Formal Repurposed

You know that bridesmaids dress or that formal number you bought for that gala and only wore once, well don’t! Re-purpose it as a skirt or with a cardigan and boots or sandals to get some wear out of it.

JCrew Formal

Denim Shirt

Aldo Glitter Boots

Michael Kors Large Gold Runway Watch

Dress: JCrew selection, Jirt: Martin + Osa (similar here), Boots: Aldo (here in black), Watch: Michael Kors, Earrings H&M

Makeup- NARS Surabaya Eyeshadow Duo, NARS Orgasm Blush, Smashbox Latte Matte Lipstick + MAC Whirl Lipliner

Here I threw on a jirt and some boots to make it more casual. You can also try a t-shirt over it or a long sleeve top underneath, don’t be afraid to play around to see what might work.

A Tutorial: Classic Low Bun

I have received lots of requests for a tutorial on my classic low bun, ask and you shall receive!

Classic Low BunTutorial 1

1. Start with hair down

2. Clip hair into three sections for teasing

3. Starting with the bottom section spray with a few spritzes of hairspray, let dry for a few seconds

4. Using a large paddle brush teach hair towards the scalp until its a rats nest

5. Go to the next section and spray a few spritzes of hairspray, let dry for a few seconds

6. Using large paddle brush, tease towards the scalp

7. Repeat for the third section

8. Tease

9. Run the paddle brush through hair gently to smooth the surface bumps only. Leaving the underneath mess will give your hair volume for a chicer effect.

10. Spray with Elnett for a light finishing hold

11. You get this look

12. Now use a thick ponytail band to create a low pony

Classic Low Bun Tutorial 4

13. Make sure you gently secure the hair band and tug lightly at your hair to keep it fluffed

14. You can use your comb to help “fluff” any areas that might have pulled tight in your ponytail

15. Use the comb to gently smooth any bumps moving it towards your ponytail in short wisps

16. Use your paddle brush to tease your ponytail creating more volume for your bun

Classic Low Bun Tutorial 5

17. Use a handful of pins to secure your bun

18. Try to place the bobby pins on each side of the bun (top, bottom, right, left)

Polka Dots & Colorblock

Polka Dots and Colorblock

This Saturday Dave and I went on a nice date to Balboa Park and visited the Art Museum. If you are ever in San Diego you really must make Balboa a destination, it’s one of my favorite places in town. Since it was so warm, I wore my new favorite skirt from JCrew and this adorable polka dot blouse from GAP.

Gap Polkadot Button-up

Steve Madden Ravesh Pumps

Celine Handbag

JCrew Colorblock Neon Skirt

GAP Polkadot Shirt

Top: GAP (in stores), Skirt: JCrew, Heels: Steve Madden Ravesh, Bag: Celine, Glasses: Framework, Watch: Michael Kors

Makeup: Too Faced Natural Eye Palette, Smashbox Latte Matte Lipstick + MAC Whirl Lipliner, NARS Orgasm Blush, MAC Fluidline Eyeliner in Blacktrack, NARS Highlighting Blush in Albatross

As previously declared, I am including more pink in my wardrobe since I literally have 1 (now 2) pink tops. This skirt comes highly recommended as it is from JCrew Factory (score!) and it is so light and fun. It reminds me of sorbet ice cream.

On a not so light side- maybe, I am pondering a move to Blogger as I honestly like the tighter knit community and freedom to do plugins and ads as you see fit, where at WordPress you have to pay for any upgrades and you cant grow your business with ads unless you go self hosted. I have been doing a trial run at Blogger with moderate success over the last couple of weeks and am wondering what your thoughts are.

Would you follow me to Blogger?? Are you experiencing similar challenges?

Neon Brights

NEON BRIGHTS

Loving the sweaters during this winter to spring transition period and this bright neon one from JCrew is definitely a new color for me. I am so happy I tried it out because it is so versatile and so much fun to wear, I am sure you will see it again on FACE IT!

MAC Cherish Lipstick

JCrew Neon Sweater

HUE Leggings

Celine Handbag

Top: JCrew (on SALE!), Leggings: HUE, Coat: ILY Couture (on SALE!), Boots: Indigo by Clarks (on SALE!), Bag: Celine, Watch: Michael Kors, Glasses: Framework

Makeup- NARS Surabaya Duo, MAC Cherish Lipstick + NARS Turkish Delight Lipgloss, NARS Orgasm Blush, MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation

Color clash- not possible it seems. Today’s trends boast contrasting colors and patterns and I love the fearlessness of it all. I paired these bright colors with black to tone them down and some natural lips. I also busted out the Conair hot rollers which I had all but forgotten and am really feeling the big bouncy curls. Perhaps they will make a comeback!

Hope you are starting your week off well.

Which fearless trend are you into right now?

**UPDATE: Ily Couture is featuring 25% off of winter clearance items (including this pea coat) with code ‘byebye’ at checkout!**

Prime Time

Primer

Let’s talk primers. Important to all day lasting makeup, vital to those of us with oily skin. I have tried different primers through the years and these two are my favorites. Smashbox has several options for primers to fit different skin types. I will say to be careful if you have oily skin – you do not want a silicone based primer (aka the clear Smashbox one) because your makeup will slide right off your face within 30 minutes.
I really like the Smashbox Photo Finish Light and the Smashbox Photo Finish Dark Spot Correcting (seen above). I love that the Dark Spot Correcting helps with old blemishes and sun spots in addition to providing an oil absorbing primer. Note: You are supposed to apply this before moisturizer then foundation to let the dark spot correction work.
Recently, I started using OC8 Mattifying Gel
Primer because my skin is just so high maintenance and I was still experiencing a lot of oiliness even with the Smashbox Primer. So far I really like OC8, it really keeps the oil at bay and the foundation stays put all day. I highly recommend both of these products. Admittedly, I still touch up with oil absorbing sheets but this has worked wonders for me.
What do you use for primer or to keep the oil at bay? Do share!!
